When I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a house of my own.

The house I was living in was very small, and I wanted a big house for myself and my family. But it didn’t always seem like that would be possible.

When I write this, I am 25 years old. I did finish the 9th grade in school but I didn’t continue studying after that. I got married when I was seventeen. When I was eighteen, I was pregnant with my son, and that’s when Wakami started coming to Tzununa, my village. I started working with Wakami when I was 19, and it was hard at first. My husband did not want me to work. One time, he even threw to the floor the tools that I used to weave bracelets.

Nice to meet you!

Because of my husband, I left the group, but my parents encouraged me to keep going, so I went back.

I am now the business leader of Producciones Tzununa, our group of women who weave bracelets that we sell through Wakami. And, surprise, my husband even works in Producciones Tzununa with me and the rest of the group!

Thanks to Wakami, I accomplished my first dream – I built my own house!

I haven’t stopped dreaming.

Now I dream that my son Félix will have a good education. I dream about planting and selling coffee beans. We already bought the land in which we will start.

I firmly believe we have to dare to dream, dream with open eyes, and work hard to achieve our goals.

In Her Words – Español
